Let’s face it, the vast majority of us opt for white or cream cabinetry in our kitchen because it’s a safe option. It’s understandable, these shades complement almost every other colour and if we fancy a change, we can simply give the walls a lick of paint. But what if you’re bored of playing it safe? What if you’re ready to take the plunge and inject some colour into your design. Well, it’s not as scary as it may seem, so long as you follow a few simple rules:
- If you opt for dark cabinetry, such as bold blues and purples, make sure you keep worktops and flooring light to avoid a ‘closed-in’ feel.
- Avoid colourful accessories, which can clash with bold cabinets. Go for neutral, black or steel so that your units remain the focal point of the room.
Here are a few colourful designs to get your creative juices flowing…
You couldn’t help but smile if you walked into this zesty yellow kitchen every morning! A dark grey floor and steel butler sink give an industrial feel.
The pink painted units in this design from our September issue are fun and feminine. The pale wood flooring adds warmth.
Vibrant green Parapan acrylic has been used to create this fresh kitchen. White worktops allow the units to stand out. Emily
