White kitchens are always big news, but this season, monochrome is set to be big as well (or so my sources tell me). I’ve always been a fan of black and white, and there are just so many ways to incorporate it into your kitchen, from the cabinetry, to appliances, worktops, flooring and accessories…

This kitchen features black appliances set into white cabinetry, but for a kitchen with a difference, why not try black cabinetry with white appliances instead?

These days appliances come in a multitude of colours, from black country-style Agas to sleek and glossy American-style fridge freezers. Tiles can make all the difference to a plain white kitchen and whether you incorporate a simple black splashback, or a feature wall, there are plenty of ways to inject some black into an all-white kitchen.

When it comes to accessories, you don’t need much to make a difference. Think a large black clock or chandelier, a blackboard set on a white wall (handy for jotting down shopping lists) or black floating shelves with striking monochrome dinnerware on display.

New to launch at House of Fraser in April is a new home collection, designed in collaboration with interior designer Sue Timney, who is best known for her black and white designs. Far too stylish to hide away in a cupboard…
